Hermeneutical ART in three acts.

Mapping the Unseen is an artistic research project, which was realised in four countries: Croatia, Iran, Bangladesh and Austria. It constitutes of artistic interventions on unseen, hidden topics - topics that are not discussed in public by the mainstream society because of its implicit taboo potential. These realisations were shown over the course of one week in empty disused spaces, such as vacant shops or offices. They have been accessible to the public and included installationes, theatres and shows as well as discussions. The issues of the implementations resulted from the participation of several art groups and performers.

The project strived for a programmatic visual and discursive treatment of a chosen topic,  identified and selected by participating art groups in their country of origin. Following this, parts of the project were invited to Austria to enable an intercultural dialogue questioning the relevance of the topic there. The connection between the two countries was a person who lived in both countries. This is called the analog Mapping in the project.

In the last step, a virtual web-based room was developed. Through this virtual Mapping, an artistic artefact that relates directly to the chosen topic has been created.

Mapping the Unseen tries to answer the questions, how it is possible to create a dialogue and make visible both the unspoken and unseen through artistic research. The research was defined through two phases, the action phase and the reflection phase. The project was designed to raise and address social issues in contemporary society. Additionally it deals with biographical aspects surrounding migration.

Mapping the Unseen is based on the format of schau.Räume, in particular on schau.Räume_global.
