Within Chinas: Ethnographic Explorations – 4th Conference of the DFG ...

The DFG Scientific Network “Anthropology and China(s)” aims at establishing the anthropology of China as a reflexive, pluralist, and relational project in the German-speaking academic world. The fourth of six conferences focused on the preparation of a second book project: [Within Chinas] Ethnographic Explorations. As public anthropology free from theoretical overload and anthropological jargon, this book will offer easily accessible, vivid and in-depth insights for a broader public interested in Chinese worlds. As a handbook for students of anthropology and China studies, it will additionally offer rare glimpses into the making of the anthropology of China, thereby enabling reflection on the place of regional anthropologies in the general discipline and, more broadly, area studies in the social sciences. As such it links to the first book project of the network: Three new chapters for this book ChinaMultiple: Un/Making Ethnographic Regions in Anthropology were also presented. More than 15 international scholars participated in the conference.
