Kurzfassung: In this paper we present a service-oriented developing framework for distributed multimodal interaction based on ad hoc peer-to-peer networks. This software framework facilitates the integration of mobile devices into distributed user interface (DUI) environments. Although mobile devices with their rich input and output capabilities seem to be practical candidates for DUI systems, they are often neglected since discovery and efficient data exchange are difficult and requires comprehensive implementation expertise. The presented service-oriented approach transforms mobile device user interfaces (e.g., touch screens, buttons, sensors) into discoverable services which can be consumed by other parties of a distributed system. The framework features device discovery, capability checking, service subscription, communication handling and the implementation of most commonly used services. In addition, various sample applications demonstrating the potential of the framework are included, three of which are described within the paper.
